I'm not trained for this.

I don't have university qualifications in psychology, or social work, or psychiatry. I haven't been taught how to manage mental illness. I haven't sat through lectures on diagnosis. I haven't been taught how to respond to someone who wants to die. I haven't written a thesis on dealing with self harm. I don't know how to assess suicide risk. I don't know how to tell whether a crisis can be contained at home or whether a hospital admission is necessary …
